Rusalka - Teatro dell'Opera

Located in Teatro Costanzi in Piazza Beniamino Gigli, 7

Rusalka ia a tragic fairytale opera by Antonin Dvorak consisting of three acts. Jasoslav Kvapil wrote the Czech libretto and was inspired by the fairy tales of Karel Jaromir Erben and Bozena Nemcova.
The tragic fairytale tells the story of Rusalka, a water nymph who has fallen in love with a mortal prince and who decides to give up her immortality in order to be with him. The water nymph turns to the witch Juzibaba who will transform her into a human at the cost of her power of speech. Moreover, the witch warns Rusalka that if she does not find true love, she will be damned and the prince will die.
Rusalka is transformed into a beautiful human and the prince, bewitched by her beauty, decides to marry her.
Nonetheless, the prince feels that she is cold towards him and tells her to go change for the ball, meanwhile he is left with a foreign princess who mocks Rusalka's muteness.
Rusalka feels powerless and decides to go to the gardens to talk with the wood nymphs, and while she's there, she sees the prince confessing his love to the foreign princess. Rusalka vanishes in the pool of the garden with the other nymphs and is punished to eternal damnation.
The prince, feeling guilty for what he has done, tries to find Rusalka, and knowing that by kissing her he will die, he decides to do so anyway.
In the beautiful context of Teatro Costanzi and directed by Elvind Gullberg Jensen, this spectacular devastating story should not be missed. Enjoy!
