Located in the center in Piazza del Campidoglio, 1
The Capitoline museums represent the most ancient public museums in the world, founded by Pope Sisto IV in 1471. In order to reach the museums, you need to walk the beautiful flight of stairs from Campo Marzio which lead to Piazza del Campidoglio, designed in the 15th century by Michelangelo Buonarroti.
These beautiful museums display historical artifacts, statues, sculptures, mosaics and so much more. Additionally, the sight of the bronze statue of Marcus Aurelius on his horse is spectacular. Apart from the collection of historical artifacts, there are also seasonal exhibitions which are great and should not be missed. When you have finished looking at the museums, you can have a coffee at the museum's bar, located on the magnificent Terrazza Caffarelli, and enjoy the breathtaking view of Rome. Enjoy!
The moment's exhibitions:
TIEPOLO: I colori del disegno (1696-1770) - This exhibition will display the works of the Venetian artist, Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, along with the works of his two sons, Giandomenico and Lorenzo. Tiepolo was one of the greatest painters of the 18th century: through his grand imagination he was able to interchange the world of ancient history into a splendid form of language, portraying the idea of artistic fantasy. The exhibition is divided into four different sections that pool together Tiepolo's drawings and paintings, taking you through a path that will lead to the painter's fantastic artistic outcomes.
