Ara Pacis Museum

Located in the center in Lungotevere in Augusta (corner with Via Tomacelli)

The Museum of the Ara Pacis has been reopened to the public in 2006 after a long period of reconstructions to ensure the preservations of the Ara Pacis, an altar dedicated from Augustus in 9 a.c. to Pax in the Augustan era, a goddess of Rome.
The museum has been designed by the American architect, Richard Meier, on the basis of contrasts between lights and shadows and gives access to the monument of the Ara Pacis, ensuring complete silence through the 500 meters squared veranda of crystals.
The museum hosts beautiful exhibitions as well as displaying artifacts of the origins of Rome all the way up to the glorious Augustus era.

The moment's exhibitions:

Henry Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004) - It is an exhibition of one of the most influential photographers of the 21st century. Cartier-Bresson was always able to unite poetry to the power of evidence. He captured images from Surrealism up the the Cold War, including the Spanish Civil War, WWII and the great decolonization. Due to his vast extensions of images, he is called "the eye of the century".

The Chiostro del Bramante

Located in Via Arco della Pace, 5

The Chiostro del Bramante, designed by the esteemed architect Donato Bramante and named after him, is an icon of Renaissance architecture in Rome. The cloister is the most important feature of what was originally a monastery which also included the neighboring church of Santa Maria della Pace. Throughout the year, the museum offers the fascinating glimpse to the Renaissance architecture and with its beautiful large frescoed galleries it provides a great space to enjoy art.

The moment's exhibitions:

Maurits Cornelis Escher(1898-1972) - The exhibition exposes the works of the Dutch graphic artist, known for his perspectives, lithographs and mathematically inspired works. His art is fascinating and unique and it explores the world of math, always staying in between art and geometry. Escher's art also observes nature with a different point of view that allows the beauty of irregular geometry to emerge. Enjoy!
